Why, O LORD, do you stand far away?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor;
let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
3 For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul,
and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.
4 In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him;
all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do the wicked and greedy seem to get away with it? These seem to be questions on David’s mind as he cries out to God. Surely you have thought the same. There’s a reason movies end with the good guy winning and the bad guy getting it.That’s what we want. The problem with bad things happening to good people is that we need to ask, “Who is good? According to Jesus, no one is good but God alone. R. C. Sproul gave a great answer to this question. You may have seen one of our leaders share this on Facebook.
Why do bad things happen to good people? That only happened once and He volunteered.
He’s absolutely right! Only Jesus could “be good and go to heaven.” We can’t because of our sins. We need to be “in Christ”. Jesus is the only way. Surrender your life to him and these things will happen:
You will see God differently, as a merciful loving Father instead of a killjoy.
You will see yourself differently, as a sinner with no better claim to salvation than anyone else.
You will see others differently, as image-bearers of God and no worse than you.
You will be content in trials like this one, Covid 19.
You will be assured of a place in the Kingdom, making it easier to withstand today.
David’s enemies said there is no God. One day all will see him. There is a God!
God Bless,
Pastor Brad
