Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone;

      for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.

            2       Everyone utters lies to his neighbor;

      with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

There is no feeling more helpless than a soldier charging into battle, turning around to see who is with him and seeing no one. He is alone in the battle. He is outnumbered. His hope is gone. That is the lament of David in Psalm 12. He looked around to see who was following him as he followed the Lord. All the leaders had vanished. All that was left was a toxic culture of lies and selfishness. He was left to cry “Save, O Lord.” It is a helpless feeling indeed. 1,000 years later, people cried out in Jerusalem, “Hosanna, Son of David!” It means, “Save us, Messiah!” He did, by dying on a cross and emerging from the tomb as the Great I Am.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and we will see that not much has changed. The news coming out of our churches can cause us to lament for the future of the church as one after another famous pastor resigns because of sin. They lie from the pulpit, saying one thing to the sheep and living their wolvish lives in secret all the while. The leaders of these churches fail to repent for their culpability. It seems like the church is doomed. Not even close. The gates of Hell can try but the church is alive and well. Come and see that we have not vanished!

Dear Lord, thank you that you are the head of the church and it will not fail. Help us to worship you tomorrow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
