Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Buying a car is one of the most stressful things we can do in our lives. There are so many questions to answer about a prospective vehicle and they must be thought out while the salesperson is staring at you. That is what makes this encounter with Jesus a supernatural event. We would have dozens of questions. What happens to my job, my home, my family? What are the hours and pay? Can I back out if I don’t like the work? There was none of that here. They immediately quit their livelihoods and followed Jesus. This is like buying the first car you see without looking at the price. Their hearts were so stirred that the potential cost meant nothing.
That is what Jesus calls for when he calls us to follow him. We ask no questions, other than, what we can do for him and why he chose us. We do not count the cost because in most cases, it is a financial blunder to follow Jesus. That is, if we are looking for earthly riches. If we look at the eternal benefits, housing in a mansion, a crown, and a great working environment with Jesus Christ, then the cost absolutely does not matter. We merely sign and drive!
Dear Lord, thank you that you make the load light and it is easy to follow you. Thank you for changing us into your followers and help us obey. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
