“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
What goes around comes around. That is usually thought of as a warning to watch out for the consequences of your actions coming back to bite you. It can also mean that the perfect circle that is the plan of God is about to close in glorious fashion. There are few chapters in Scripture that describe this than the second chapter of Joel. Verse 3 begins with the Garden Of Eden. Joel warned of the disobedience of Israel leading to calamity.
In Acts 2, Peter began the first church sermon with this verse to tell the world that the Messiah has come and his name is Jesus. Finally, the trumpet will sound, as Joel prophesied, and as John described in Revelation 9. The circle will be complete.
We have our own circle for the church to participate in for the completion of God’s plan. What goes around comes around. We receive the gospel. We go and proclaim the gospel. We pray as we gather together. We disciple those who have received God’s grace through our proclamation. Repeat. Today, be aware that a kind word and the word of God can go out from your lips and come around years later through the question to you, “What must I do to be saved?” Then rejoice that you have been a part of the circle and that what goes around comes around.
Dear Lord, thank you for the straight line that leads to the return of Jesus and for using us to complete your circle of evangelism and discipleship. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
