The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD:

                  “Wail, ‘Alas for the day!’

            3       For the day is near,

      the day of the LORD is near;

                  it will be a day of clouds,

      a time of doom for the nations.

            4       A sword shall come upon Egypt,

      and anguish shall be in Cush,

                  when the slain fall in Egypt,

      and her wealth is carried away,

      and her foundations are torn down.

Sometimes you avoid people simply because you know they have bad news to tell you. Ezekiel may have been one of those people. Based on the above verses, it is a safe bet that Ezekiel did not get invited to a lot of parties. The nations would not have been pleased to hear this, especially Egypt, set apart for particular destruction. It is never pleasant to hear that a sword is coming for a visit. Egypt and Cush are in for it. Israel and Judah would have their own day of the Lord.

But not us. On that day, the nations will bow down to Jesus when he returns. Not all of them will enjoy the experience but we will enjoy him forever. That is because Jesus came the first time to bring hope, joy, peace, and love to the world through his death on a cross. Today, may people walk up to us because they see us and just know that we have Good News. May that be the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dear Lord, thank you for the coming day of the Lord when we see you face to face and worship you forever. We pray for the nations, that they would see you and bow down in worship. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
