Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
You ain’t seen nothing yet! Besides being, grammatically, one of the most poorly constructed sentences of all time, this exclamation is what Mary and Mary could have been told as they witnessed the spectacle in these verses. The ground shook. An angel in dazzling white broke the tomb open and took a seat. They would be thinking that they could not wait to tell the disciples about this. It was the most amazing thing they had ever seen. I wonder if they even mentioned it, because that record would be broken in just a few minutes. They hadn’t seen nothing yet!
Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!”
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow for an Easter morning that celebrates this first Easter. We will have breakfast together and sing songs proclaiming Jesus is alive. We will praise him for the hope that comes from knowing death is not the end but the beginning. The guards were also there. I wonder what became of them. I suspect they too had a story to tell much like our story of our encounter with the Risen Lord. Come and share with us our joy at gathering together to sing praise to our Savior. Come and receive Greetings!
Dear Lord, thank you for the cross but especially for the empty tomb. Help us to share that moment with those who live for this moment. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
