28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
29 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey, the people quoted the verse before these verses,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!
By the end of the week, many of the same people were crying out, “Crucify him!” One wonders if they knew they were quoting this psalm and, if they did, if they knew really who this was they were proclaiming as the Son of David. The last three verses of this Psalm tell us three things about the Lord. He is God, He is our God, and he is good and loves us.
I wonder how many people who attended a Palm Sunday service yesterday know really who it is they were worshiping. Do they know that he is God? It would change their worship if they did. Do they know he is our God, our covenant head? It would change their behavior if they did. Do they know that he is good? Sure. Even unbelievers call him a good man but we worship him because he is so much more. He is our God and our hope. His love and goodness mean we are saved by his sacrifice on the cross.
Dear Lord, thank you for Easter. We have hope because of the love of Jesus on the cross. Help us to celebrate the resurrection every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
