Out of my distress I called on the LORD;

      the LORD answered me and set me free.

            6       The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.

      What can man do to me?

            7       The LORD is on my side as my helper;

      I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

            8       It is better to take refuge in the LORD

      than to trust in man.

            9       It is better to take refuge in the LORD

      than to trust in princes.

There is a sad resignation when a buried earthquake victim in rubble ceases to call out for rescue because they have given up hope that  they will be heard. Imagine their worldview at that time. There is no one to help me. Life is a futile toil until the end comes with a whimper. For Israel, the time came when they cried out to the Lord and the psalmist records the key difference from the plight of the trapped person.

The LORD answered me and set me free. His steadfast love endures forever!

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see why Psalm 118 was so important then and is still needed today. So many people in the world have the worldview of the trapped earthquake victim. The most aggravating and tragic part is that they can walk out at any time by crying out to the Lord. They think they are too bad or too late. It is never too late to cry to our Helper. We have no basis for faith in man. The Lord is on our side.

Dear Lord, thank you for the hope that we have even when we feel trapped. We pray for the lost to cry out to you today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
