Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

The Constitution is a 235 year old document that American citizens can trust to protect their rights from usurpation from the government. It has required many amendments because it is man-made and flawed but it serves to give a solid foundation for a peaceful life in this land. Paul’s exhortation in this letter to the church in Corinth talks of “these promises”. He had just listed these promises from Exodus, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, as well as the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. He cited the Old Testament as a document that shows that God keeps his covenant promises and will keep even more. The response on their end, Paul says, is to remove all idolatrous and sinful defilement from the temple of our bodies. They were in covenant with the Creator and Paul called them to live like it.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as we see how we can live like we are in covenant with the Living God; because we are, if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. That is, if we trust the document, like the Constitution, that guarantees our citizenship in heaven. Come and see what that looks like when we gather together, comforting one another as fellow heirs of the King. We the people will gather together to form a more perfect union as we partake of Communion with our Sovereign Ruler, Jesus Christ.

Dear Lord, thank you for the writings that guarantee our citizenship. May we exercise the rights and responsibilities therein. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
