From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

The letters B.C. mean much more than a convenient place to begin a new calendar so this year would be 2024 A.D. The letters A.D. are the key. B.C. is Before Christ and A.D. is Anno Domini, the year of our Lord. This means that there was a turning point in the history of the world. Before that event, life was basically the same except for one thing, mankind was lost in their sins. Then something happened that Paul describes as Jesus on earth but now on the throne in heaven. This affects much more than the calendar. It changes our lives. We are a new creation because Jesus has come, the new has come.

In this case, though not always, newer is better. The New Testament is better than the Old Covenant in that it completes it. The New Covenant is better than the Old Covenant in that Jesus fulfills it. Our New Life is better than the Old Life in that Jesus creates it. We love the Old, Old, Story of Jesus and his love because it is the beginning of a New, New Story of our walk with him. May we never forget the old story of how we met our new Savior Jesus Christ.

Dear Lord, thank you for the new life from the old story of Jesus and his love. May we love in return and be renewed this day and may it never get old. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
