So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” If you knew that the LORD God said the first line and the Apostle Peter said the second line, would it make a difference who you believed? Of course, when God tells us he will be with us, we know he is there and can be believed. When a person makes a promise, we are appreciative but equally skeptical. With man, it pays to walk by sight. The skeptic says, “show me”. God says, “Believe me.” This we can do, walking by faith and not by sight because he has shown us he is faithful.
The time is coming when we must put aside what we can see in favor of that which we cannot see. We may be forced to make decisions based on the promises of God and it is then that we will find out if we are walking by faith or by sight. We will see clearly who we believe, God or man. Like Peter, man cannot be trusted, even if he is what we see. In the long run, it pays far more to put our hope in that which we cannot see. He is far more believable.
Dear Lord, thank you that you are believable while man is incredible. May we trust you in the moments when faith is needed. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
