Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Not much is known about William Shakespeare’s life so wild theories have circulated about him. That is what we do. We do not know much about Simeon from Luke’s account of the birth of Jesus. We have generously filled in the blanks, surmising that he was a Zealot, waiting for the military conqueror to come, that he was blind and healed in the presence of the Savior. In truth, Luke did not tell us much about him because it was not important. What was important was that the Messiah had come as the Savior of Israel and the devout Simeon was afforded the grace to bear witness to it.

Come to Cape Community Church on Christmas Eve morning and discover the truth that we have been afforded the same grace. We are not promised that we will see it in our lifetime but we will bear witness to the salvation of the world when the newborn babe in a manger returns as the King of kings on the clouds of Heaven. We do not need to fill in the blanks on what it will look like because it will not matter once we see him face to face. We will rejoice because our eyes will see our King.

Dear Lord, may this be a Merry Christmas because we know what is coming. Help someone have a Merry Christmas because they finally see the Savior of mankind. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
