One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. 11 If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?
So much of our lives is governed by what governs our heart. If we are a little dishonest, it will manifest itself in big ways. I was forced to respond to a manager long ago when told to tell a little white lie to my customer, “If I can lie to my customer, I can lie to you.” I also noticed in business that customers who accused me of ripping them did so because it is what they would do. Jesus knows the human heart better than anyone. He went to the cross because it is deceitful above all things. This is why we instill these things in our children at an early age when they steal a cookie and lie about it.
It is also why Christians need integrity in every aspect of life. If we can be two-faced to our friends in minor events, we can be two-faced to our Lord and Savior. This will manifest itself when the time comes to stand up and be counted as a follower of Christ. Today, may we be faithful in the little things because the big things are coming when faith will be crucial. Then, when the biggest thing happens, the return of Jesus Christ, the true riches will be for those with faith and integrity on earth.
Dear Lord, thank you for the little events on earth that allow us to witness to you. May we be found to be good and faithful servants. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
