Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

As we mature from childhood to adulthood, our taste for sweets diminishes and so does our propensity to cry at the drop of a hat. We move from petulance to patience. Just as the Bible says that we are slaves, either to sin or to God, the same can be said for who is King of our lives. In the previous verses, Paul laid out what God had done and the suffering of Christ, all for us. In response, we often let sin sit on the throne that Jesus earned with his love for us. As we become new creations in Christ, we need new passions as we move from sin to salvation.

Every healthy person is passionate about something. As we see in our entertainment media, passion is rather one-sided and boring. When we become passionate for the Lord, however, he sits on the throne of our life and the excitement begins! Today, may we present our bodies to Jesus Christ to obey his will. May today be the coronation day as Jesus becomes King of a loved one’s life, exercising dominion over them and granting them freedom at the same time.

Dear Lord, thank you that you are King of Kings. We bow before your throne and pray that you keep sin at bay in our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
