Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God

In an old horror movie from the 50’s, 6 trumpets all loudly hitting a high note indicated that the monster had arrived and the world would soon end unless the hero of the movie froze it or something. In Revelation, John is giving us a glimpse of the future and its 6 trumpets. It is not good. Praise God that, where there is a 6, there is a 7. The 7th trumpet changes everything. The world as we know it ends, but another is ushered in that makes us forget the other trumpets because we are focused on the Hero, the Lord Jesus Christ.

You may be hearing 6 trumpets today, heralding the arrival of the monster that is illness, poverty, and strife. Let us remember that where there is a 6, there is a 7. Knowing Jesus and his promise to return, may we be always mindful that the kingdom of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord. May we, like the 24 elders, fall on our faces at the sight of him. We can fall on our faces right now in worship because we see him in Scripture and in our lives. Let us worship him with the knowledge that it is forever and ever.

Dear Lord, thank you for the promise of the last trumpet which negates the other 6. Help us to live our lives with that trumpet in mind. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
