So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
Man tries to find meaning in this life without God. They want to know what their purpose in life is. Tolstoy concluded that life is meaningless and an increasing amount of people post-Covid are seeing no purpose to their existence with tragic consequences, a 4% increase in suicides since 2021. Here is an antidote to purposelessness. Paul wrote to the Corinthian church that was preoccupied with their rights and pleasures that they may have thought it was their purpose. The new purpose for them was to glorify God, that many people would be saved.
What a difference that makes in the life of a believer! The fact that we have a Savior and eternal life is the hope we need. When we gather together, there are no quarrels about details, just joy in the Lord. The gospel is offensive because it accuses us of sin. We do not need to compound it with our attitude. Today, let us be gracious, glorifying God in all things, so that they may be saved. As Paul said in verse 24,
Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.
Dear Lord, thank you that we have purpose in life, to glorify you and enjoy you forever. Help us to show others that following you makes life worth living because you are worth living for. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
