On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

“God sent you here at this moment.” We have heard that many times on our Prayer Walks, twice recently. The person we meet has been thinking about what life is all about and then someone tells them. This is encouraging to them and us. We sometimes feel a particular walk is failing until we realize we may have been talking to all these people because of this one person. Here in Luke 5, we see that Jesus spoke to a crowd of people and in the end called four fishermen. What we see in verse 3 is that he singled out Simon, who is Peter. It is as if he were speaking to a hundred people for the sake of one man.

You may feel that you have loved the Lord because of his love and mercy to you but you have not really served him well. I highly doubt that. You may have been born on this earth to reach just one person and that may not have happened yet. When it does, your purpose will have been attained and you simply move on to the next person. You may be used there too. Like Esther, you may be where you are…

For such a time as this.
