Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children
Our short attention spans have caused us to have a short memory. Who remembers what the big story was before 9/11? It was the disappearance of Chondra Levy. It seems hard to believe that God’s chosen people would forget what their eyes had seen in the wilderness, the parting of the Red Sea, the manna and the quail, and the pillar of cloud and fire. There would seem to be less to distract them than what faces us today, but they managed. They failed to take care, watching out for temptation and they lacked the diligence to seek the Lord and find him. Once that happens, it becomes less likely that it will be passed on to the next generation.
There is so much sensory overload in our media soaked culture today that we can forget a news story we just read soon after. We are so bombarded with social media, news, and mindless videos that important things are squeezed out. There is one problem for those who attempt to squeeze out the Lord. He will not be squeezed. He will not be mocked. He will not be forgotten. The sooner we as Christians cast our eyes upon Jesus and cast our burdens onto him, the sooner our children will see what is most important in the world and avoid being swallowed up by the world. Do not forget what Jesus did on the cross, in the tomb, and in your life. Tell your children…
The Big Story.
