But you, O GOD my Lord,
deal on my behalf for your name’s sake;
because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!
22 For I am poor and needy,
and my heart is stricken within me.
23 I am gone like a shadow at evening;
I am shaken off like a locust.
The follower of Krishna would approach you with a book entitled The Science of Self-Realization. They would have you use this method to attain this level of consciousness. The psalmist, though ignorant of Krishna teaching, would say that is rubbish. The psalm above tells us the way to self-realization. It comes through experiencing the power of God. When that happens, the psalmist sees his poverty before God, as in the poor in spirit from the Beatitudes of Jesus. The heart breaks that we have violated our covenant with God with our sin. Our life is fleeting and man is like a bug to be swatted. That is real self-realization!
Praise God for his steadfast love! We all deserve the fate of the man in the psalm. We deserve to be heartbroken at our sin and put to death for it. But God. But God, in his steadfast love, has delivered us by the blood of his Son Jesus Christ. He did this for our benefit but ultimately his glory. Therefore, today, may our lives also serve that purpose, to glorify God because of the gratitude we feel at the benefits of his mercy. Instead of shaken off like bugs, we are adopted as sons and daughters. Praise the Lord!
Dear Lord, thank you for the steadfast love that means we cannot change your love for us. Help us to love and glorify you by loving others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
