For he who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ. 23 You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men. 24 So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.
Come as you are. When we see that in an invitation, all stress about what is required for the party are gone. You need not dress as a chicken, or in a tuxedo. You can be who you are with no worries. When you come to this party called the church, however, you come as you are but you do not stay that way, Paul says. He had just written the church to stay married or unmarried, circumcised or uncircumcised. He added here that one thing would change. All enslaved would become free in the Lord and, subsequently, all free would become slaves in the Lord.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and we will learn together what it means to come as you are and become free slaves to our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. There is no contradiction in becoming free bondservants to Jesus, just as there is none in Jesus being a Sovereign Servant. We will see just what happens to a person when they are called in the Lord and perhaps the Lord will call one tomorrow!
Dear Lord, thank you for calling us to yourself and releasing us from the chains of sin. Help us to be servants of yours and submissive to your glorious will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
