Daniel 6:26-27
I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel,
for he is the living God,
enduring forever;
his kingdom shall never be destroyed,
and his dominion shall be to the end.
27 He delivers and rescues;
he works signs and wonders
in heaven and on earth,
he who has saved Daniel
from the power of the lions.”
Three quarters of Americans believe in God. With their head. Very few of them believe in God with their heart, loving him and following him in their daily life. The reason is that they see no reason and they see very few modeling faith and God’s power. Two kings in Daniel found themselves praising a foreign God they never worshiped before. What happened? King Nebuchadnezzar witnessed the power of the “fourth man”, Jesus, and the life saving faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire and it changed everything he thought about God and his people. Here we have another example, this time from the Persian King Darius the Mede. He saw the faith of Daniel and the life saving power of God in the lions’ den and it changed him.
Today, may people who have only the merest notion of God suddenly know him and praise him. May that happen because they saw us. Because they saw the faith of his followers in impossible circumstances and saw the power of God as he delivered them from the snare. May those followers be us. May the decree go out that He who has saved us is the living God!
Dear Lord, thank you for grace through faith made possible by the death of Jesus on the cross. Help us to demonstrate that faith to someone today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
