According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the perfect example of a beautiful building on poor ground of clay and shells. It had started to go wrong before they had even finished it. Meanwhile, the Gothic cathedrals are standing perfectly because care was taken on the footers before building on them. Paul used the farming analogy earlier and then moved on to construction. Both principles apply. A seed not planted deep enough or too deep will not grow. A poor foundation will show in a building. Paul was hinting at what the foundation should be for this struggling church body, and it was not Paul or Apollos.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to learn how a church can be a beautiful building with no foundation or a poorly planted seed. We will see Jesus Christ as the sure and true foundation of the church, not the building, but the lives and hearts of its members. Each Christian will be judged on who the foundation of their life was and may the structure of our lives be found to be sound so we are not condemned for demolition. May we stand on solid ground.

Dear Lord, thank you for building your church and that you are our solid rock. Help us to have you as our foundation so the storms of life are powerless against us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
