Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The Bible does not contradict itself. It is important to establish that because Paul surely seems to do just that in this chapter of 1 Corinthians. He had just claimed in verse 1 that he did not come bringing wisdom, yet in these verses he twice said that he did. What gives? The answer lies in verse 6 with the phrase, “although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.” His is the wisdom from God while the wisdom of the world thought it was a good idea to crucify the Messiah. Not sound wisdom.

There is a lot of this worldly wisdom that has crept into our thoughts on Jesus. I reported at our Annual Conference that only 44% of born again Christians believe Jesus did not sin! If that is so, his crucifixion was useless and possibly even deserved because the wages of sin is death. If preachers had the wisdom of God, they would uncover the secret wisdom of God and not the drivel believers are believing which is doomed to pass away. Let the mature understand.

Dear Lord, thank you for revealing your truth to us little children through your word. May we be attentive to your wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
