…and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

Just as when we see a sentence beginning with “Therefore”, we look back to see what it is there for, we see the word “and”, and say, “and what?” Here, Paul told the church in Ephesus what role the church plays in God’s plan. You would think we in the church could be pretty proud of that but in verses 8 and 9, Paul says his ministry is a gift and says twice that it was given to him. Grace, also mentioned twice, was given to him, the least of all saints. Look also, at the word, “through” in verse 10. It is done by God through the church, not by the church and the really clever people therein.

It was a mystery to us until it was revealed and now God uses the church to show the revelation to others. Today, may we be mirrors that reflect the revelation of Jesus Christ to those who need to see it. May we be conduits of the grace of God, not producers. We are not good at it. Let us remember that clever words do not save, Jesus saves. The sooner we realize that we are least, then the best can really flow through us. Let us thank God for this revelation.

Dear Lord, thank you for making the mystery known to us. We pray for those that still walk through the fog and that the message would be made clear for them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
