“For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
There was a funny 70’s animated show for adults called “Wait til Your Father Gets Home”. It was about a dysfunctional family with generation gap problems. Here in Malachi, he wrote that same basic message to the people of Jerusalem. There had been a lapse in their love for God after the exile, much like the lapse that brought about their judgment at the hands of the Babylonians. This warning was for everyone. Wait til your Father gets home! The Apostle Peter would take a similar warning from Joel and make it the text of his first sermon, bringing the Good News to the Jews for the first time in Acts 2 at Pentecost.
Come to Cape Community Church and see how we can now wait with anticipation until Jesus comes home instead of with fear and trepidation. See his promise that he will gather those who are his and burn the rest like stubble. The world is filled with arrogant and evil people. Paul would say such were some of you. He would also say all of us need a Savior. Come and see what the Savior has done when he came to earth, dying ona cross, and rising again. See also what is to come.
Dear Lord, thank you for the promises of the Bible and that you did a work in us arrogant and evil people. Help us to love those who you are still lost and show them the way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
