For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Abraham was told that God would be their God way back in Genesis 17. All the way in Revelation 21, God says we will be his people. From front to back, this is covenant language, that, just like a marriage, we give ourselves to the other. In this case, the “other” is almighty God! Jeremiah had even better news for those under the law. He will write it on their hearts. No longer would they suffer and struggle to please a holy and righteous God. The holy and righteous God would come to earth to suffer and struggle, thus satisfying the wrath of the Father and making us his people and him our God. No wonder the author of Hebrews said this one was better!
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to see what this meant to the people of God and what it means for us today. See how it can change everything about the way we think and act. It can change how we view the things of this earth and the people around us. Let this good news change you so we can all gather together to worship our covenant God.
Dear Lord, thank you for the covenant with you that is not dependent on our performance but on our faith in what Jesus performed. Help us to receive the blessings we do not deserve because of the curse he did not deserve. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
