Blessed is the man

      who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

                  nor stands in the way of sinners,

      nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

            2       but his delight is in the law of the LORD,

      and on his law he meditates day and night.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. So begins A Tale of Two Cities. Not very informative. Look at Psalm 1. So begins the Psalms, songs of praise, thanksgiving, but also lament and crying out. These words written 3,000 years ago but could be the theme for us in 2023. David wrote of the blessings inherent in avoiding the wrong crowd, joyfully reading the Bible, and constantly praying. Who could relate to that? All of us. The remainder of the psalm is a warning to those who scoff at this, a large percentage of the human race. Judgment and despair await them.

This is why we go on Prayer Walks and minister to those in need. We want these inherent blessings we do not deserve to be shared by those we come into contact with. You will come into contact with someone like this at some point, maybe even later today. Let us prepare for battle by reading the battle plan, the Bible, and by consulting our commanding officer and meditating on our orders. Then we can reap the blessings that come from our faithfulness and obedience.

Dear Lord, thank you for the Bible, especially the Psalms that comfort and teach us to walk in your ways. Help us to walk up to someone today and show them what blessings were given to us and are in store for them if they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
