15 but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ ”
When we search for attributes of God in our Wednesday Night Bible Study led by Carl Price, we inevitably find God’s sovereignty, promise-keeping, and covenant-honoring. When we look at man, oh dear. There is no shortage and none of it is good. We are filled with iniquity, pride, self- reliance, idolatry etc. Worse, our love of God is fleeting and fickle. How great is our God and the word he uses to describe his love! Steadfast. Like a boulder. Solomon strayed from the covenant and the kingdom paid the price. Yet the steadfast love of God remained solid.
Guess what. We stray and sin, looking elsewhere for satisfaction and fulfillment, forgetting God and not loving him. Yet his steadfast love will never leave us either because his Son, Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin. His death on the cross means that while his throne is established forever, so is our presence with him, basking in his steadfast love. That should add an attribute to man. Gratitude. We should fall on our knees crying out, “My Lord and my God!” Today, let God know that his steadfast love for us is appreciated with our heartfelt prayer.
Dear Lord, thank you so much for the steadfast love that Jesus showed by being nailed fast to a cross, paying the price for our sin. Help us to thank you constantly for your favor and mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
