Psalm 135:19-21

O house of Israel, bless the LORD!

O house of Aaron, bless the LORD!

20       O house of Levi, bless the LORD!

You who fear the LORD, bless the LORD!

21       Blessed be the LORD from Zion,

      he who dwells in Jerusalem!

                  Praise the LORD!

Sometimes we don’t need a clever explanation of a passage or a story that applies the passage to our lives. Sometimes we just need to praise the Lord and sing his praises, seemingly for no reason at all! The great part of that is, we have every reason to praise him every day. The psalmist wrote this praise song with abandon. It is a repetitive exhortation to sing blessings on Almighty God. In these verses, all are included. The Aaronic priesthood, the Levites who assist in the temple, indeed all of Israel and Jerusalem. There is no one that is exempt from declaring that God is good all the time and all the time, God is good. That is good news in troubled times!

Today, may we see the glorious hand of the Lord in each second of the day and thank him for it. You may just have a lousy day today. Praise the Lord! Let’s try to avoid saying,”Praise the Lord anyway! Just praise the Lord. Count how many times the psalmist says, “Praise the Lord!” Never mind. I looked it up. It is proclaimed 32 times in the psalms!

No matter what happens today, the Lord is the author of it and has ordained it for us this day. He is teaching us something. We may not know what that is but we will. When these teaching moments come, we have just one thing to say and you probably guessed it…

Praise the Lord!
