“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Many Christians can rattle off the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5 but many of them do not live it. It is what David Helm calls a kitchen calendar verse. It stands alone with no context. John 3:16 is the most memorized verse by people who do not understand it, both Christians and non-Christians. Some think it is a “Get out of jail free” card and verse 17 would seem to confirm it. See, the world is saved through Jesus! The key is whoever believes in him. That comes with a cost of following him. Jesus commanded his followers to pick up the cross and follow him. That means follow him right up to Calvary and suffer for him. They see the love but not the price tag Jesus paid.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to see what this kitchen calendar verse really means in the Christmas season and just how much God loved the world. We will see what our response should be to this love. We will learn to see love as more than something on a Christmas card and let it into our hearts so that we will bear fruit because we are…

Saved through him for eternal life.
