Your name, O LORD, endures forever,

      your renown, O LORD, throughout all ages.

            14       For the LORD will vindicate his people

      and have compassion on his servants.

            15       The idols of the nations are silver and gold,

      the work of human hands.

            16       They have mouths, but do not speak;

      they have eyes, but do not see;

            17       they have ears, but do not hear,

      nor is there any breath in their mouths.

            18       Those who make them become like them,

      so do all who trust in them.

Beware of Substitutes. We see this with products and services, meaning that the name brand is proven to be effective while generic or store brands can be less effective with poor results. The same can be said for God and the psalmist did a taste test if you will between the real God of the universe and the fake gods of wood, stone, and metal. Our God is guaranteed for eternity and comes with a promise of justification and mercy for sinners. The pretenders are not effective for justifying or saving man because they are actually crafted by man. The total power of God cannot be replicated, even though these gods have eyes,ears, and mouths. They do not work. These gods and the hands that made them are destined for the earth that they came from, the earth God created.

Our fake gods today, pleasure, possessions, and power, are sad substitutes that have a much shorter shelf life than the everlasting God we serve. Today, dwell on the testimonials of people who have trusted Jesus Christ for his truth in advertising in John 6:14…

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
