We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

When I was a teenager, I was a passenger on a rainy interstate when we went into a spin doing 85 mph. We came to rest in the grassy median with no ill effects. The uncertainty felt like hours. Anyone who has been on rough seas knows how good it feels to be anchored and safe. The author of Hebrews was writing at a time of rough seas for the church, just like Peter and Paul were. The church was being persecuted and they felt at sea. The writer assured them of this blessed truth. Jesus is our anchor of the soul. He went into the deep for us and made our safety secure.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and learn how these verses can help us through a busy Christmas season by showing us why we celebrate Christmas. The hope of the world came to earth and was born in a manger to give hope to God’s people. Ray Pritchard wrote a book called An Anchor for the Soul with the subtitle, Help for the Present, Hope for the Future. We will learn that Jesus is our very present help today in the stormy sea and our very present hope for the future. This is because he was born and…

Because he lives.
