Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
When we got our first computer in the mid 90’s, Vicki already knew all about them. My first question was, “How does it work?” I have not progressed like I would have liked in the intervening quarter century. I still find myself wondering how to do simple things on the computer. The simple gospel though, is here as the people, cut to the heart by Peter’s first sermon, asked a similar question. “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter’s answer was a list of four instructions that Christians have followed since long before computers. Repent, think again about how you are living your life. Be baptized, telling the story how you died to sin, were buried and rose again with Christ. Be forgiven, accepting the grace and reacting with gratitude. Finally, be filled with the Holy Spirit which will guide you and change you.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as we check off the boxes in our lives as Peter listed them for his Jewish audience at Pentecost in Jerusalem. At Cape May Court House, we will gather together to learn how to repeat the message of the gospel so the Holy Spirit will supply the results, 3,000 added to their number. May the Lord add to our number through our worship of him at CCC. Pray that a new hearer learns from the Holy Spirit…
