It is he who remembered us in our low estate,

      for his steadfast love endures forever;

            24       and rescued us from our foes,

      for his steadfast love endures forever;

            25       he who gives food to all flesh,

      for his steadfast love endures forever.

            26       Give thanks to the God of heaven,

      for his steadfast love endures forever.

I have become conscious of the fact that over the years, as a preacher, I have gotten rather repetitive about certain aspects of the Bible, Jesus, and salvation. I seem to say weekly, “Pray, read your Bible, and look to that day. I can think of far worse things to repeat but if it gets too much, let me know. If you do, I will point you to Psalm 136 and the repetition of the phrase “for his steadfast love endures forever.” There are 26 verses in this psalm. Guess how many times the phrase occurs in the psalm. You guessed it. 26 times. There are few things in the Bible that are better to hear about over and over again than the steadfast love of God.

Just think what this means to us today. No matter what we have done in the past, the love of God never changes. Philip Yancey says, there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more and there is nothing you can do to make him love you any less. No sin will change his love for you, nor will any good deed. This should prevent two things from entering our lives. The first is despair that this time we have really done it. The other is to say look what I did God! Neither one squares with the steadfast love of God. His love for you is fast and forever…

It bears repeating.
