And they sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll

      and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation,

10       and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,

and they shall reign on the earth.”

Some people are famous for being famous and we wonder what it is they became famous for in the first place. Paris Hilton comes to mind, perhaps unfairly. In these verses, his fame is earned and his worthiness is praised. The twenty four elders, representing those of us all over the world that have been ransomed by the Lamb of God, are singing praises to the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. This came after the Apostle John wept because no one was worthy to open the scroll. He needn’t have worried. Jesus was right there the whole time.

How often do we weep because we feel there is no one worthy or able to help us when we are troubled? We see the world in its dismal state and we certainly do not feel like singing.

Sing away because he is worthy to be praised! Worthy is the Lamb who was slain! By his blood, we have hope along with all his chosen from every race and nationality. The world to come will be one long worship set. Now we can wake up and sing to the King. When you are in a trial in your life and no one is found who is worthy, look to the cross and the Advocate will be there. When we see the Lion and the Lamb who is mighty to save…

How can we keep from singing?
