For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.
Unsinkable. That is the loud boast of folly that the architect and builders of the Titanic proclaimed over 100 years ago. Their pride and arrogance had allowed them to believe that they had conquered all of science and were in control. It took just one iceberg to snap them out of it. This same arrogance was exhibited by the false teachers of Peter’s day. Their loud boasts were that they knew the way to be saved and it was by following them, not God. Peter spared no phrase of condemnation to describe their bold, willful ignorance. In their greed, they convinced people to sacrifice their eternal future in the hopes of freedom on earth. Ironically, these dealers in slavery were slaves themselves.
There are many such false teachers in the world today that tell you if you send them money, you will obtain financial freedom and healing from your diseases. Their corruption makes them slaves to their greed and only someone else’s money will satisfy. We have a secret. Jesus is the key to satisfaction and freedom and his grace and mercy are free because of his shed blood on the cross. Any other way of salvation is nothing but a loud boast of folly. To those people who preach a different gospel that promises that your life will be unsinkable, Jesus has a message…
Iceberg dead ahead.
