And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. 4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

It’s too wet to plow. It’s too dry to plow. If we were clever, we could devise a way to excuse us from working at any time. Jesus devised a way to remove all excuses from the pairs he was about to send out to proclaim the gospel. He was ready if they were to say, “Lord, we have no staff, or bag, or money. How can we evangelize without that? We do not even have a place to lay our head! Jesus was ready for that one too. He didn’t either. There was nothing holding them back from preaching the gospel to all the villages around them. They had no excuse. So they did.

Nor do we have an excuse. It costs nothing to proclaim the name. It requires no seminary training to tell others what Jesus did for us. It is not someone else’s job. They could have told Jesus he could do it better. Of course he could! But he told them to do it and he tells us to do it.

Go and make disciples…

Today, let us make a point of preaching the gospel everywhere, the doctor’s office, the supermarket, wherever people need the Lord. Like the disciples of Jesus, we have no excuse for not proclaiming Christ…

So we do.
