You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. 2 You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, 3 nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.
“The majority of Americans believe…” It really does not matter what the next few words are. The implication of the statement is that what follows must be right because “the many” believe it. The majority of people believe in evolution. Therefore… you get the point. It can be used for evil. Many Germans believed Jews were destroying the world. As an aside, the belief in evolution and the belief that Jews were an inferior race are closely connected. In both cases, the many influenced the few. That is why Moses recorded from the Lord that it shall not be done in Israel. It was also done to deny justice to a person in favor of one who was more popular.
This law is needed today. So often, a celebrity will escape serious punishment for grievous offenses toward innocent people, denying them justice. It also shows in what the majority of Americans believe, like “abortion is okay”, “gay marriage is okay”, and “there is no God”. The Bible, in Psalm 14:1, has a saying for that.
The fool says in his heart, there is no God.
So many have fallen in with the many to believe, say, and even do evil. The many think nothing of lying and spreading a false report to destroy an enemy. May we be found doing something radical in response as the minority few…
Love your enemy.
