When Israel went out from Egypt,

      the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

            2       Judah became his sanctuary,

      Israel his dominion.

            3       The sea looked and fled;

      Jordan turned back.

            4       The mountains skipped like rams,

      the hills like lambs.

            5       What ails you, O sea, that you flee?

      O Jordan, that you turn back?

            6       O mountains, that you skip like rams?

      O hills, like lambs?

            7       Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,

      at the presence of the God of Jacob,

            8       who turns the rock into a pool of water,

      the flint into a spring of water.

It is not often we use an entire psalm in a devotion but this one should be read in its entirety or we miss just how awesome our God is. Israel was a small band of slaves until God delivered them and, at once, they were greatly to be feared because the LORD was with them. All of creation trembled when they saw Israel because they also saw God.

America may or may not exist when Jesus returns. It is not America that people see and tremble at the presence of the LORD. It is the church that reflects who Jesus is as the head. Think of the reaction people in your circle have to the very name of Jesus. They tremble, sometimes with rage, sometimes fear, but they are never neutral. Mention Buddha, Mohammed, Confucious, and you get indifference. Mention Jesus and you have a conversation on your hands. Psalm 114 tells us why. This world is his dominion and the church is his bride. When we come out of church, just like Israel leaving Egypt, may the world take notice and tremble as the bride…
