13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
This is from Paul’s introduction in his letter to the church in Ephesus. As he did earlier in Galatians, Paul said the gospel was for the Jew first. The words “you also” refer to the Gentile believers. All people. Those who were once enemies of God now enjoy all of the benefits of the children of the covenant, Israel. Look at the words of comfort in these verses. Truth. Salvation. Sealed. Promised. Inheritance. And finally, glory. These words now apply to all believers.
There is absolute assurance for you in these two verses. There is truth, even in a world that rejects absolute truth. There is salvation, even in a world that looks unsalvageable. It is sealed, binding, even in a world where a signed contract isn’t worth the paper it is written on. It is promised, and not by a politician. It is guaranteed, even in a world full of scammers. It is your inheritance. No government can take it away. There is no Death Tax. We had none of these things. We were lost. We were destitute like the Prodigal Son but the Father is there with open arms for each sinner that comes home. He guaranteed it by sending his Son Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice, once for all. We are saved, sealed, and sons and daughters of the King. That is why we praise him and give him glory instead of praising ourselves. Because he deserves it and we don’t. Enjoy your inheritance today.
It is guaranteed for life.
