The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
2 Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
It is very windy here in Cape May this morning and I often wonder how trees and roofs can withstand such an onslaught from a force we cannot even see. The power is undeniable because we can see the results. The psalmist cannot see God. He is invisible. But he can see his majesty, as if he is wearing his royal robes. He knows the power of the Lord, as if he can see the belt that holds his great sword. He can see the results of God’s power. The world turns around and around and circles the sun without fail. The psalmist can see the world and know that it was created and the Creator exists from before the creation of the heavens and the earth. It must comfort him.
Does this fact comfort you? Do you take comfort in the fact that, no matter what happens on this earth, that it was no surprise to God? He established the world and ordains every seeming small thing that happens in it. If the world will not be moved, though it is inanimate dirt, how much more true that he will not allow you to be moved? May we all take comfort this morning from the fact that, though storms may come, the Lord will sustain us. No wind can blow the love of the Lord down because it was fastened with nails to a cross. Enjoy the wind and the rain because…
Our God reigns.
