When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people.
50 Then Joseph fell on his father’s face and wept over him and kissed him. 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel.
So begins the final chapter of the first book of the Bible. The death of Jacob was something he was ready for because he had seen Joseph and was able to bless his sons. The entire history of Jacob began in chapter 25 so half of Genesis was about him and his offspring. It would not end there. Judah would continue the promise of God that through Abraham, all the nations of the world would be blessed (Genesis 12:3). In the beginning of the first book of the New Testament, The Lion of the tribe of Judah, Jesus Christ, would be introduced as the Messiah, the coming one, the King on the throne of David that would bless all the nations of the world through his perfect sacrifice on the cross.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to see how all the things we covered from chapter 37 to 50 were all part of the plan and how the last chapter of the first book led to the first chapter of the first book in the New Testament. See how, like Jacob, we can be ready to face death and these troublesome days because of the last chapter of the last book, when the Bridegroom comes to finish the story…
For good.
