So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. 5 And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

“Wherever you go, there you are.” Jon Kabat-Zinn wrote this book to help busy people de-stress and be happy. This is one of many ways irreligious people seek what they think are the benefits of “religion” without the “hangups”. I have a feeling people do not say that anymore but you know what I mean. We found in Scripture yesterday morning that the best way to unload burdens and stress is to say, “Wherever you are, God sent you there”. Joseph knew this full well, having been thrown in a pit, into slavery, and into prison. Yet, instead of snapping his fingers and having his brothers killed on the spot, he wept with them and kissed them. He could have written a self help book.

Think how different your outlook on life would be if you knew that everywhere you went, God sent you? You would never feel that you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. You are just where God wants you when he wants you there. There is still room for healthy discontent though. We should be unsatisfied with our level of surrender to his will. With this surrender, there will be far less frustration and impatience about our station in life. We would never feel that God forgot us and has no plan. We would never feel that God took us so far and then abandoned us. We would know that God is with us and sends us…

Wherever we go.
