When Jacob learned that there was grain for sale in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?” 2 And he said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain for sale in Egypt. Go down and buy grain for us there, that we may live and not die.”
There are a few instances in the Bible that make me chuckle every time I read them. This is one of them. Jacob is almost blind but can clearly see the indecisiveness and sheer inertia of his incompetant sons. So in classic sitcom fashion, he asks them why they are sitting there staring at each other waiting for grain to rain down from the sky. Jacob told them that there was grain in Egypt. Ironically, he could not know that it was there because of the foresight and decisiveness of his long lost son, Joseph. These men are on a collision course with a crazy plot twist!
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to see what happens and how much maneuvering God did to bring together that which was separated. We will also see how much it cost to bring us together with him. It cost his Son, Jesus Christ. We have been learning from the life of Joseph that not every bad thing is bad if God means it for good. This famine meant death for many in the land but it will reconcile the brothers and ultimately lead to abundant life through the Bread of Life. In times of trouble, why do you look at each other?…
Look to the Lord for the Bread of Life.
