At Cape Community Church, we are in a series entitled By Faith Joseph… These verses are a good illustration that Joseph had nothing to acquit himself before Pharaoh. Imagine what he must have looked like, a smelly, grimy prisoner in front of Pharaoh. They could have kicked him out but that is obviously not what happened. It was because God was with Joseph and Pharaoh could see it and it was because God showed Joseph these things and Pharaoh knew it that Joseph could be seen as discerning and wise.
What Joseph accomplished, becoming second in command in Egypt, can be done by any of us for the simple reason that Joseph did not accomplish anything. He had faith that God would. This is a great comfort to us in times of trouble and the world is closing in around us. In our illness, our hardship, and our strife, we can trust God to deliver us like Joseph and the other members of the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11. Jesus said in John 15 that apart from him, we can do nothing. He must have had Joseph in mind.
