Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.
“Just wait until your father gets home!” That usually did not mean good news. Judgment typically ensued when father got home. The prophets were tasked by God with sending a tough message for the wayward people of Israel and Judah. The phrase they used was the “Day of the Lord.” What that really meant was, “Wait until your Father gets home.” the problem was that they did not believe the prophets and persecuted them instead. While they should have feared the arrival of the Lord, they lived as if he did not exist. Then they heard the car pull up the driveway and they knew that the Babylonians had arrived and the Day of the Lord had begun. That day would last 70 years.
Look at the roster of evildoers in this verse; psychics, adulterers, liars, oppressors, and those who ignore their neighbor instead of loving them in obedience to Jesus Christ. Did you see yourself? I did. That is why we need Christmas. We need a Savior who will come and save lowly Israel. Praise the Lord that day has come!
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and learn how important Christmas day is to every day of the year. We will take joy in the fact that Jesus has come. We will take greater joy in the fact that he is coming again. Now we can joyfully say…
Wait until your Father gets home!
