Behold my servant, whom I uphold,

      my chosen, in whom my soul delights;

                  I have put my Spirit upon him;

      he will bring forth justice to the nations.

            2       He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice,

      or make it heard in the street;

            3       a bruised reed he will not break,

      and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;

      he will faithfully bring forth justice.

We usually do not yell, “Look, a servant!” That would be reserved for celebrities. We usually do not hear songs to servants. Those are usually reserved for heroes and lovers but this passage is called the Servant’s Song. Here in Isaiah, we see that God intended to send a servant. No big deal, they might have said. Then Isaiah described this servant in more detail. The servant would have the Holy Spirit, bring justice to the world, something much desired today, and would be faithful, rejecting no one.

In ancient times, a bruised reed meant it could not be used as a pen or a flute so it was good for nothing. A smoldering wick was dry and smelled up the whole house. It must be discarded immediately. Not so with this servant. He will be faithful to all people and will save all who believe in him. Who is this servant?

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and find out that this servant is indeed the King of kings, the Lord, and Master Jesus Christ. Why a servant? Because he loves us. He is present with us now. God with us. This Servant has written a love song and the best news of all is…

This song is for you
