We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.

“Now there’s your problem!” Those short words explain the problem with your car. When you hear that phrase at the auto repair place, you know it is going to be an extensive and expensive repair. The good news comes when you learn that it can indeed be fixed. Verse 19 is the Apostle John’s way of saying, “Now there’s your problem!” It also explains why the world runs so poorly. It is being driven by Satan, only with the permission of Almighty God. Pandemics, racial division, political turmoil, and wars, get in the machinery and gum up the works. It needs extensive and expensive repair. Someone has to pay for the repair.

That is where verse 20 comes in. The Son of God has come to fix the world and bring joy. This is experienced even in this broken world by those who are “in him”. This is for those he chose as his children; you and me. Maybe you are reading this and you are not sure. Maybe you think the world is too far gone and it would be good money after bad. Maybe you think that of yourself. It is true, the world is creaking and belching smoke down the road to destruction. It is also true that Jesus Christ is the answer to the problems of the world… and your life. Whatever part of your life that is seemingly beyond repair…

Jesus can fix that.
