4       One thing have I asked of the LORD,

      that will I seek after:

                  that I may dwell in the house of the LORD

      all the days of my life,

                  to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD

      and to inquire in his temple.

            5       For he will hide me in his shelter

      in the day of trouble;

                  he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

      he will lift me high upon a rock.

When watching a movie, there is nothing more infuriating than a character missing a valuable clue that would end their quest and it would be a happy ending. It makes people do strange things like yell at screens, “It’s right there!” David was on the run from King Saul and needed an army, weapons, and probably sleep. What he sought and asked for, however, is something totally different that was staring him in the face. He needed to be in the house of the Lord and worship him there. What a lesson for us!

This is because people are stumbling around in the dark, looking for the answer to their fears, frustrations, and aimlessness. The answer is staring them in the face every time they walk by a church, especially one that boldly follows, worships, and proclaims the name of Jesus Christ. They think they need money, pleasure, and power when what they really need is to be in the house of the Lord and see the beauty of the gospel in all its life-changing glory. Let us go into the house of the Lord. He will be there. He will shelter us from the harsh world. He will lift us up with wings like eagles. If it has been a while since you last went into the house of the Lord…

It’s right there!
