26 Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the LORD our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there.”

Some compromise is good. Some is not. Neville Chamberlain compromised with Adolf Hitler and it eventually plunged the world into war that killed tens of millions. There are times when compromise is not an option. The offer to Moses by Pharaoh in Exodus is just one of those occasions. It might make sense for Moses to work with Pharaoh. After all, he was the most powerful man in the world at the time and the offer was quite reasonable. He said, “only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” Why not? Moses could have said. He did not. This was because the Lord does not compromise. All his people and their possessions would be delivered from Egypt.

Today, we have many opportunities to compromise the principles laid out in the Bible. After all, some say, the world has moved on from the antiquated values in Scripture. If we are to be “relevant” in the world of 2021, some argue, we need to compromise on certain things like abortion, gay marriage, and gender identity. There are entire denominations engaging in such compromise. There is one problem. The Lord does not compromise and he does not call us to do so. God is God. Sin is sin. The Bible is the foundation of our code of conduct and there can be no other influence, no matter how loud and powerful. If we compromise now when it is relatively peaceful, we will deny Jesus when the going gets tough. We must serve the Lord our God…

Absolutely.
